Every consulting engagement we run starts with a business question. Should we move this system? What should IT cost at our size? Where are we carrying risk we cannot see? Our IT consultants answer questions like these with a review of your actual environment and a written plan you can act on, whether you execute it with us or with someone else entirely.

What IT consulting looks like when it is done properly

Think Technology Australia provides IT consulting to Australian businesses of 10 to 100 staff: independent audits, technology roadmaps and security advice, delivered at a fixed price with quarterly reviews. Every engagement starts from the business goals and ends in a written plan the client can act on with any provider.

Consulting has earned a reputation for long reports and vague recommendations. Ours works differently, and the difference is mostly discipline. We review your short and long-term business goals before we look at a single server. We put growth and efficiency opportunities next to the risks and dependencies that could undo them. Then we give you advice in plain English, with the reasoning shown, and a fixed price agreed before the work starts. The practice runs under the same standards we advise on: Think Technology Australia is certified to ISO 27001:2022 for information security and ISO 9001:2015 for quality.

For clients who stay on, the advice does not go stale in a drawer. We run quarterly reviews that adjust the plan as the business changes, which is where consulting stops being a document and starts being a relationship.

“The primary benefit we get from working with Think Technology is improved security. Standardisation of all hardware and software is also really important. This resolves all the issues of people doing things differently and increasing security risks.”

Our IT consulting services

The engagements below are the ones businesses ask for most. Each stands on its own.

Strategy and roadmaps

The core of the practice: technology roadmaps, independent IT audits and second opinions on big proposals. This is also where cost gets honest scrutiny. Most businesses we audit are paying for software nobody uses, and finding it usually funds the rest of the plan.

Cloud and infrastructure

Advice on what belongs in the cloud, what does not, and how to move without disrupting the business. We consult on Microsoft 365 environments, migrations, office moves and the infrastructure decisions that sit behind a merger or a new site.

Security and compliance

Practical security direction sized to your risk: cyber insurance requirements, a prioritised Essential Eight maturity plan, and DISP obligations for defence industry suppliers. The advice comes with an order of works, not a list of fears.

Data and AI

Where AI earns its place in your business, which tools fit, and the governance to use them safely. We advise on Copilot and Claude rollouts, from the first pilot through to policy.

IT strategy and a technology roadmap you can budget against

A roadmap engagement produces a 12 to 24 month plan for your technology: what gets replaced and when, what it will cost each quarter, which risks are ranked highest and what order to fix them in. Finance gets numbers they can put in a budget. You get an end to surprise spending. In our experience the roadmap pays for itself the first time it prevents a panicked hardware purchase.

A virtual CIO, without the salary

Some businesses need ongoing senior IT thinking rather than a one-off plan. That is a virtual CIO arrangement, where an experienced head joins your leadership conversations a few days a month and owns the technology direction. We deliver it through our Technology Leadership service, and it suits businesses that have outgrown ad hoc decisions but cannot justify a full-time CIO hire.

Independent advice you can take anywhere

Every report, roadmap and finding from a Think Technology Australia consulting engagement belongs to the client, and the advice is written to stand on its own with any provider. Some clients hand the plan to their internal team. Some take it to another provider. Plenty ask us to deliver it, and we are glad when they do, but the advice is not written to sell you our other services. That independence is also why businesses use us for a second opinion on someone else’s proposal, which takes an hour or two and has saved clients from some expensive mistakes. Who we consult for

Our IT consultants work with Australian businesses of roughly 10 to 100 staff: professional services firms, medical practices, transport operators, manufacturers, clubs and not-for-profits. Defence suppliers are a specialty, with consulting that covers DISP membership and the systems needed to hold it.

Areas we serve

Brisbane and South East Queensland is home, with offices in Brisbane, Canberra and Yass, Wagga Wagga and Melbourne. Consulting engagements run across the ACT and NSW as well, where our defence industry and DISP work regularly takes us. Most engagements mix on-site workshops with sessions over Teams.

Common questions

Ask four things of anyone you shortlist, including us. Do they ask about the business before the technology? Is the price fixed and scoped in writing? Is the report yours to keep, whoever delivers the work? And can they show you real reporting from a current client? A good consultancy will answer all four quickly.

A fixed price agreed up front, scoped to the question you need answered. Small engagements like a second opinion are priced in hours; audits and roadmaps are priced as a project. There is no open-ended hourly meter.

A consultant tells you what to do and why. A managed provider runs your IT day to day. Think Technology Australia offers both as separate services, and consulting clients are under no obligation to use our managed IT support.

Typically a few weeks from first workshop to delivered plan, depending on the size of your environment and how quickly we can get time with your decision-makers.

Often that is exactly when it is useful. An internal person is close to the systems and busy keeping them running. An outside consultant brings comparison across many businesses and the licence to ask awkward questions about cost and risk.

A senior technology leader engaged part-time. You get CIO-level strategy, vendor management and board reporting for a fraction of a full-time salary. Our Technology Leadership page covers how the arrangement works.

Start with the question

Bring us the IT decision you are weighing up. The first conversation costs nothing and you will leave it knowing what we would do in your position.
